A distance hike in Limestone Canyon this Saturday presents a great opportunity to experience the rain-watered greenness of Orange County’s outback .

The Irvine Ranch Conservancy is leading a 10-12 mile hike through the Limestone Canyon Nature Preserve for “physically fit hikers who enjoy the challenge of multiple steep climbs and descents.”

The hike begins at 7:30 a.m. and lasts for about 5 hours.

Hikers can take in sweeping views of Orange County and the Santa Ana Mountains.

The hike ,may include visits to The Sinks (Orange County’s “Grand Canyon”) and/or Dripping Springs.

The IRC recommends participants bring a sturdy day pack, a minimum of 3 quarts of water, trail snacks, closed-toe hiking shoes or boots, sunscreen, first aid and other supplies for a safe and healthy trail hike.

Each hiker should be comfortable with an average pace of 3 miles per hear.

Under-prepared hikers may prohibited from joining the hike.

The OC Independent is dedicated to providing factual, informative reporting on Orange County government, politics, education and quality of life issues such as homelessness and access to housing. We seek to illuminate aspects of issues, movements and trends that receive little or no attention from more established, mainstream outlets. Our editorial philosophy is grounded in the principles of the American Founding: limited government, federalism, the separation of powers and equality before the law as indispensable to securing our liberties. The opinions and stances articulated in OC Independent editorials flow from those principles, and are grounded in facts.
