On May 13, join the Irvine Ranch Conservancy for a late afternoon/early evening exploration of Weir Canyon – hiking over Rifle Range to the Overlook Trail and a vista of the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks, as well as views of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, Los Angeles Basin, and Cleveland National Forest.

The return hike takes participants through an oak woodland.

All told, the hike is 4.5 hours in duration and 9.5 miles long, and is rated a 4+ on the 1-through-5 Difficulty Ratings .

The hike starts at 4:00 p.m. tomorrow from the Outdoor Education Center Weir Lot, in the Wier Canyon Nature Preserve.

IRV recommends wearing hiking shoes or boots, and bringing water, a trail snack, sunscreen, hat, and other appropriate supplies (they will not be provided). A red-tinted flashlight or headlamp is also recommended.

Hikers must bring a signed IRC Liability Waiver – they will not be provided on site.

Who is OC Independent?

The OC Independent is dedicated to providing factual, informative reporting on Orange County government, politics, education and quality of life issues such as homelessness and access to housing. We seek to illuminate aspects of issues, movements and trends that receive little or no attention from more established, mainstream outlets. Our editorial philosophy is grounded in the principles of the American Founding: limited government, federalism, the separation of powers and equality before the law as indispensable to securing our liberties. The opinions and stances articulated in OC Independent editorials flow from those principles, and are grounded in facts.
