On Saturday, June 25, the Irvine Ranch Conservancy is organizing an early morning family hike in Black Star Canyon, part of the 40,000-acre Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks.

The two-and-a-half hour hike begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends around 10:30 a.m. from the Red Rocks staging area in Black Star Canyon Wilderness Park.

The 3-4 mile hike will follow a flat trail and cross a creek, and is intended for participants who enjoy a more level, slower-paced hike. Bring water, wear appropriate, closed-toe footwear and comfortable clothes and be on the lookout for red-tailed hawks and mule deer.

On a difficulty scale of 1-through-5, this hike comes in at a 2.

Adult participants must bring a signed liability waiver (they can add minors to the waiver). Waiver forms can be downloaded here

and will not be available on site. No walk-up registration is allowed.

Restrooms will be available, but facilities will not be sanitized for each individual.

Who is OC Independent?

The OC Independent is dedicated to providing factual, informative reporting on Orange County government, politics, education and quality of life issues such as homelessness and access to housing. We seek to illuminate aspects of issues, movements and trends that receive little or no attention from more established, mainstream outlets. Our editorial philosophy is grounded in the principles of the American Founding: limited government, federalism, the separation of powers and equality before the law as indispensable to securing our liberties. The opinions and stances articulated in OC Independent editorials flow from those principles, and are grounded in facts.
