Equestrians have an opportunity this Thursday for a horseback ride through scenic Limestone Canyon in OC Parks’ Irvine Ranch Open Space – home of oak woodlands, grasslands, and coastal sage scrub and our miniature version of the Grand Canyon, The Sinks.
The ride is from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and leaves from the Augustine staging area in the Limestone Canyon Nature Preserve.
Equestrians with trail riding experience and their own fit and able horse are welcome. Both must be fit for riding for four hours over moderate terrain that includes hills.
The ride travels on wide trails and single tracks with several moderate to steeper climbs. You will need to transport your horse to the staging area. Owners of unshod horses should be aware the ride will traverse areas of gravel and distances over asphalt pavement.
Advance registration is mandatory – no walk-ups. Participants must be at least 18 years old.
Please bring water on the ride, which is a 3 on the 1-through-5 Difficulty Ratings scale. Please visit the FAQ page for additional answers to specific questions.
Arrive with all necessary equipment to keep you safe on the trail, including water, proper attire, and closed-toe footwear, first aid, health needs. etc. Restrooms will be available, but facilities will not be sanitized for each individual.
