Spend the morning of Tuesday, April 9 watering and nurturing Tecate Cypress trees and Coast Live Oak seedlings at the Fremont Staging area in the Fremont Canyon Nature Preserve. The OC Parks-sponsored activity is from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The Tecate Cypress is one of the rarest species on the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks, and Orange County is home to the northernmost stand of these trees – which was severely reduced during the 2006 Sierra Wildfire.

Advance registration is required – no walk-up registration is permitted. Arrive with all necessary equipment to keep you safe on the trail, including water, proper attire, and closed-toe footwear, first aid, health needs etc. Restrooms will be available, but facilities will not be sanitized for each individual. All participants are required to sign a liability waiver upon arrival at the staging area.

Who is OC Independent?

The OC Independent is dedicated to providing factual, informative reporting on Orange County government, politics, education and quality of life issues such as homelessness and access to housing. We seek to illuminate aspects of issues, movements and trends that receive little or no attention from more established, mainstream outlets. Our editorial philosophy is grounded in the principles of the American Founding: limited government, federalism, the separation of powers and equality before the law as indispensable to securing our liberties. The opinions and stances articulated in OC Independent editorials flow from those principles, and are grounded in facts.
