The City of Fullerton is set to host the grand re-opening celebration of the Hunt Branch Library on Saturday, April 13, 2024, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, at 201 South Basque Avenue, Fullerton, CA 92833.

After undergoing renovations and improvements, the Hunt Branch Library is ready to welcome back patrons with an updated space, enhanced resources, new programming, and rental opportunities. The re-opening event promises a day of activities, entertainment, and opportunities for all ages to explore literature and learning.

The Hunt Library was a gift to the City of Fullerton from Hunt-Wesson, Inc., which was headquartered in the city. The CEO of Hunt-Wesson was Norton Simon, a leading businessman and a prolific art collector whose collection formed the basis for the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena. The Hunt Library was deigned in the International Style by renowned architect William Pereira. Hunt-Wesson donated the land and paid for the design and building of the Hunt Library, which was completed in 1962.

Highlights of the event include:

  • Ribbon Cutting Ceremony: City officials, community leaders, Library staff, and Parks and Recreation representatives will participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:30 am to mark the official re-opening.
  • Refreshments: Food trucks such as Taco Miendo and BittieBitez will offer various options for purchase. Complimentary snacks and beverages will also be provided.
  • Children’s Activities: Activities tailored for children, including arts, crafts, and games.
  • Community Engagement: Opportunities to connect with fellow community members and learn about local initiatives, volunteer programs, and educational outreach efforts.
  • Live Entertainment: Performances by the CSUF Jazz Trio, ArtsOC, and Grupo Folklorico Monte Alban.
  • Puppet Show: A puppet show by former Fullerton Public Library Children’s Librarian Janine Jacobs featuring beloved stories.
  • Library Membership and Resource Demonstrations: Demonstrations of library resources and the opportunity to apply for new library memberships.

The grand re-opening celebration of the Hunt Branch Library aims to provide a day of enjoyment for the community. Whether one is a longtime library patron or new to the area, all are welcome to attend and celebrate the joys of reading, learning, and community.
