Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) Board of Directors has greenlit a collective bargaining agreement with the union representing workers in OCTA’s Operations Division, recognizing the pivotal role of Facilities Technicians and Parts Clerks in sustaining Orange County’s transit operations.

The agreement, negotiated with the Transportation Communications Union/International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers (TCU), entails substantial wage hikes ranging from 11% to 13% over the next three years, commencing from April 1.

Expressing gratitude for TCU’s collaborative approach in bargaining, OCTA Chair Tam T. Nguyen remarked, “While their contributions often go unnoticed, these employees are indispensable in ensuring the safety and reliability of OC Bus services.”

Parts Clerks, responsible for furnishing parts, safety gear, and other essentials, are set to receive a 5% raise starting April 1, followed by increments of 3% and 5% in the subsequent years. Meanwhile, Facilities Technicians, tasked with the upkeep of machinery, transportation centers, and OCTA facilities, will see increments of 3%, 3%, and 5% over the same period.

The current agreement, set to expire on March 31, will be succeeded by the new agreement, extending until March 2027.

The OC Independent is dedicated to providing factual, informative reporting on Orange County government, politics, education and quality of life issues such as homelessness and access to housing. We seek to illuminate aspects of issues, movements and trends that receive little or no attention from more established, mainstream outlets. Our editorial philosophy is grounded in the principles of the American Founding: limited government, federalism, the separation of powers and equality before the law as indispensable to securing our liberties.
