The air will be filled with the sounds of bagpipes and the sight of kilts as the Scottish Fest returns to the OC Fairgrounds on May 25-26, 2024. This annual event, a cherished tradition for over 30 years, promises a weekend brimming with the vibrant culture and rich history of Scotland.

A Tradition of Celebration

Scottish Fest is Southern California’s premier Scottish Highland Games and Festival, attracting thousands of visitors each year. The festival showcases the best of Scottish culture, from its spirited music and Highland dancing to caber tossing and Scottish goods and wars. Clans will gather once again, affording visitors the opportunity to explore their Scottish heritage, if they have it.

The Music: Bagpipes and Beyond

Music is the heart and soul of Scottish Fest, and this year, attendees can look forward to performances by some of the most talented bagpipe bands in the region. The festival will feature competitions and performances by world-class pipe bands, solo pipers, and drummers. These musicians will compete in various categories, showcasing their skills in playing traditional Scottish tunes that stir the soul and ignite the spirit.

In addition to bagpipes, the festival will also host performances by Celtic rock bands, folk singers, and traditional Scottish musicians. Attendees can enjoy the harmonious blend of ancient and contemporary sounds that define Scottish music today.

The highlight of each day is the Massed Bagpipes, when all the competing pipe bands march into the arena together, playing “Scotland the Brave” and other crowd favorites.

Cultural Highlights

Beyond the music, Scottish Fest offers a plethora of activities celebrating Scotland’s cultural heritage. The Highland Games are a highlight, featuring traditional athletic competitions such as the caber toss, hammer throw, and tug-of-war. These events demonstrate the strength and endurance that are hallmarks of Scottish athletics.

For those interested in the finer arts, the festival will include Scottish dancing exhibitions, showcasing the grace and precision of Highland and country dancing. There will also be storytelling sessions, where visitors can immerse themselves in Scottish folklore and history.

Family Fun and Festivities

Scottish Fest is a family-friendly event with activities for all ages. The festival also includes craft and vendor booths offering Scottish goods, from tartan wear to unique crafts and souvenirs.

Food enthusiasts can indulge in traditional Scottish fare, including haggis, shepherd’s pie, and shortbread, along with modern favorites and local brews.
