The Agua Chinon area is facing a significant challenge from non-native and invasive plant species. These plants are aggressively competing with native flora for resources and are spreading rapidly across the habitat. Effective monitoring, management, and removal of these invasive species are crucial for land management and habitat restoration efforts.

Volunteers are needed to help manage and remove these invasive plants from the habitat. No previous experience is necessary, and all necessary equipment, including snake chaps, gloves, and tools, will be provided. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own tools if they have them.

Participants should wear long pants, long-sleeved shirts, closed-toed shoes, and sun protection. It is important to note that the area is a wilderness zone with natural hazards, including the occasional presence of snakes, such as rattlesnakes.

The removal takes place from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5.

Advanced registration is required and participants must sign a liability waiver.

Who is OC Independent?

The OC Independent is dedicated to providing factual, informative reporting on Orange County government, politics, education and quality of life issues such as homelessness and access to housing. We seek to illuminate aspects of issues, movements and trends that receive little or no attention from more established, mainstream outlets. Our editorial philosophy is grounded in the principles of the American Founding: limited government, federalism, the separation of powers and equality before the law as indispensable to securing our liberties. The opinions and stances articulated in OC Independent editorials flow from those principles, and are grounded in facts.
