Outdoor enthusiasts are encouraged to lace up their boots for a half-day, moderate-paced trek through one of Orange County’s most striking wilderness areas — the Limestone Canyon Nature Preserve, part of OC Parks’ Irvine Ranch Open Space.
The guided hike will take participants over a ridge and deep into the preserve, where they will pause at both the East and West Sinks viewing platforms. From there, hikers can take in expansive vistas and the dramatic geological feature known as “The Sinks,” often described as Orange County’s own miniature Grand Canyon. The 1000-foot elevation gain will be covered on a mix of double- and single-track trails.
Participants to come fully prepared. A sturdy day pack, water, snacks, closed-toe hiking shoes or boots, sunscreen, first aid supplies, and any other personal necessities are required. Those arriving underprepared may be turned away for safety reasons.
Advance registration is mandatory, with no walk-up signups allowed. Hikers must bring all necessary gear, sign a liability waiver at the staging area, and be ready to follow established safety protocols. While restrooms will be available, they will not be sanitized between uses.
Health considerations are also a priority: anyone feeling unwell, showing symptoms of illness, or having had recent contact with someone sick is asked to refrain from attending.
The event is rated a Level 4 on the Irvine Ranch Conservancy’s 1-to-5 difficulty scale, and organizers recommend reviewing the rating system and FAQ page before registering.
For those ready to take on the challenge, the reward will be sweeping canyon views, fresh air, and a chance to experience one of the county’s most treasured landscapes.
