The remaining living Israeli hostages have been released from their diabolical captivity in Hamas tunnels, thanks to a peace agreement brokered by President Donald Trump. This is cause for rejoicing for Israelis and Gazans – indeed, for the rest of the world.
It’s also important to draw the proper lessons, and here in Orange County, one of the most salient is the dangerous foolishness of the organized Left in Orange County – especially OC Supervisor Vince Sarmiento and his fellow ideologues on the Santa Ana City Council – Johnathan Hernandez, Ben Vazquez and Jessie Lopez – and their fellow travelers in the non-profit industrial complex.
Gaza peace agreement is the fruit, first and foremost, of the might of Israeli arms and the determination of the Netanyahu government to destroy Hamas. Almost immediately after Hamas’ murderous October 7, 2023 massacre, leftwing activists in the United States were calling for an immediate ceasefire.
In Santa Ana, Councilman Ben Vazquez pushed for the city council to endorse phony claims of “genocide” and back a ceasefire tat would have protected the Hamas terrorists from retribution for their crimes against humanity.
Supervisor Vince Sarmiento backed Vazquez’ foolishness, and a few weeks ago had escalated that stupidity into a call for cutting off military aid to Israel. We don’t know if Sarmiento wrote that statement himself or acceded to the harebrained wishes of radicals on his supervisorial staff.
If those calls for ceasefires and ending arms sales tot he IDF had happened, Hamas would be intact, the hostages still languishing in tortured captivity, and the peple of Gaza still under the murderous rule of Hamas. Instead of a real peace – a peace born of military victory – we would have an interregnum while Hamas prepared for another October 7. The true beneficiaries of the policies advocated by Sarmiento, Vazquez, et al, were the Hamas terrorists and their patrons in Iran.
That is the unjust and violent future Israel and Gaza would be facing if Sarmiento, Vasquez and other useful idiots for Hamas had their way.
The Gaza peace agreement vindicates the historical truism that there is no substitute for victory. Thank God the Trump Administration and Netanyahu government grasp that truth and refused to yield to progressive foreign policy fantasies.
It is said Vince Sarmiento has ambitions to run for Congress. His fatuous and feeble-minded utterances on the Israel-Gaza War ought to disqualify him from any office that touches upon the foreign policy of this nation.
