On June 10, OC Independent published Part 1 of an examination of Orange City Council candidate Brandy Romero’s claims and qualifications.
The City of Orange has been in the grip of an ongoing budget crisis for the last few years, and the council recently voted to place before the voters a 1-cent sales tax increase that would endure for 13 years.
Among the issues our article examined was Romero’s delinquency in paying her property tax to the tune of $5,375.07. Payment of this second quarterly installment was due on April 10, 2026.

In preparation of our 2-part series, on June 4, 5 and 7 OC Independent e-mailed a number of questions to Romero, including why she was delinquent on her property taxes. We received no reply.
On June 10, we published Part 1, which included the issue of her property tax delinquency. As of the publication, she still had not paid her property tax.
Romero claimed in an Instagram video published after our article that she had not received our emails.
OC Independent subsequently communicated the same questions to Romero via her Instagram page.
Later on June 10, Romero paid her delinquent property tax bill. – two moths after it was due. Another 20 days, and Romero would have been in default.

In other words, Romero was 2-months delinquent on paying her property tax bill until OC Independent published an article calling out that fact. Within hours, Romero paid her property tax.
Coincidence?
Romero promised a response to our questions be the end of last week, but to date we have receive nothing.
