OC Parks and the Laguna Canyon Foundation are recruiting volunteers to help restore native habitat along Aliso Creek in Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park on Saturday, October 24 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

The program, called Land Tending with LCF – Aliso Creek, starts at Aliso Viejo Community Park, 150 Cedarbrook. It aims to improve conditions for the native plants and wildlife that live along the creek.

Tasks change with the season. Depending on the time of year, volunteers may remove non-native plants, hand-water, collect seeds or plant native species. Organizers say no experience is needed, and all tools will be provided.

Participants should wear long pants, closed-toe shoes and sun protection, and bring water.

The program and parking are free. Limited street parking is available nearby. Advance registration is required through the Laguna Canyon Foundation at lagunacanyon.org/event/land-tending-with-lcf-aliso-wood-canyons.

Rain or muddy trail conditions may cancel the event.

Who is OC Independent?

The OC Independent is dedicated to providing factual, informative reporting on Orange County government, politics, education and quality of life issues such as homelessness and access to housing. We seek to illuminate aspects of issues, movements and trends that receive little or no attention from more established, mainstream outlets. Our editorial philosophy is grounded in the principles of the American Founding: limited government, federalism, the separation of powers and equality before the law as indispensable to securing our liberties. The opinions and stances articulated in OC Independent editorials flow from those principles, and are grounded in facts.
