On Saturday, June 25, the Irvine Ranch Conservancy is organizing an early morning family hike in Black Star Canyon, part of the 40,000-acre Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks.
The two-and-a-half hour hike begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends around 10:30 a.m. from the Red Rocks staging area in Black Star Canyon Wilderness Park.
The 3-4 mile hike will follow a flat trail and cross a creek, and is intended for participants who enjoy a more level, slower-paced hike. Bring water, wear appropriate, closed-toe footwear and comfortable clothes and be on the lookout for red-tailed hawks and mule deer.
On a difficulty scale of 1-through-5, this hike comes in at a 2.
Adult participants must bring a signed liability waiver (they can add minors to the waiver). Waiver forms can be downloaded here and will not be available on site. No walk-up registration is allowed.
Restrooms will be available, but facilities will not be sanitized for each individual.
