The days are getting longer (Daylight Savings Time begins on March 13), giving Orange Countians more time to enjoy the outdoors, including the breathtaking backcountry of OC.

Each Wednesday during the Spring, Summer and Fall, the Irvine Ranch Conservancy sponsors after work fitness hikes along Hicks Haul Road – a 3.5 mile trek to the top of Loma Ridge and back that affords great views of the county and beautiful sunset vistas.

The hike pace averages 3 to 3.5 miles an hour, but participants can slow down or speed up depending on their comfort level. Most finish in about an hour.

The hikes take place between 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Limestone Canyon Nature Preserve. Click here to register, and here for information on the hike itself (what to bring, what to expect, etc.).

Who is OC Independent?

The OC Independent is dedicated to providing factual, informative reporting on Orange County government, politics, education and quality of life issues such as homelessness and access to housing. We seek to illuminate aspects of issues, movements and trends that receive little or no attention from more established, mainstream outlets. Our editorial philosophy is grounded in the principles of the American Founding: limited government, federalism, the separation of powers and equality before the law as indispensable to securing our liberties. The opinions and stances articulated in OC Independent editorials flow from those principles, and are grounded in facts.
