Orange County residents have the opportunity to dispose of their bulky items at a no-cost dump day scheduled for Saturday, March 23, in Irvine. The event will run from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 5595 ½ Walnut Avenue in Irvine.

Included in the event is free shredding services, with households limited to four boxes each. Caltrans is sponsoring the event in partnership with Waste Management and the City of Irvine, and will oversee the event at the Jeffrey Road Park & Ride lot, located just off the 5 freeway. Residents can conveniently drive up and dispose of their items. No prior appointments are necessary.

It’s advised to arrive early, as the event will close once capacity is reached.

Funded by the Clean California Initiative, a $1.2 billion fund aimed at maintaining cleanliness on local roads and waterways, the dump day aims to mitigate litter accumulation. Caltrans reported collecting 438,756 cubic yards (approximately 7,386 tons) of litter from the state highway system in 2022, indicating a significant increase compared to previous years.

In 2022, Caltrans conducted 51 free dump days statewide, collecting various items including tires, mattresses, e-waste, and appliances. For those with bulky furniture in good condition, Goodwill of Orange County offers an alternative to landfill disposal by redistributing items to those in need.
