Christopher Becerra, a member of the Brea Olinda Unified School District Board of Education, today was arrested by the Brea police on charges of possession of child pornography, annoying or molesting a child, and falsifying evidence, and bribing, influencing, intimidate or threatening witnesses.

“During the investigation, Detectives located and identified additional victims. Due to Mr. Becerra’s access to children, Detectives believe there may be additional victims,” stated the Brea PD press release.

“Brea Police Officers responded to a report of inappropriate sexual messages being sent to a juvenile from a Brea Olinda Unified School District Board member. The Brea Police Department Detective Bureau began a thorough investigation and worked closely with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office and the Brea Olinda Unified School District,” the press release stated.

Becerra was elected to the Brea Olinda school board in 2022 from Trustee Area 4 with the endorsement of the local teachers union. According to his school district biography, Becerra worked for the school district from 2010-2018 as the Administrative Director of Child Development Services.

Becerra, 42, operates an educational consulting services business, and his professional website states he is a certified foster parent who “approaches his work with a trauma-informed, child-centered lens” and has a passion for DEI:

A certified foster parent, Dr. Becerra approaches his work with a trauma-informed, child-centered lens, offering specialized guidance for supporting vulnerable children and youth. His passion for social-emotional developmentDEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion), and inclusive learning practices shapes his responsive approach to both systems and individual needs.

Becerra is also a faculty member at Santa Ana College (SAC), although the school has already scrubbed his bio from their website, but from the internet archive:

Dr. Chris Becerra has worked in education for over 25 years, both as a teacher and as an administrator. As a certified foster parent, and as an adoptive parent, He brings a trauma informed care lens in all of the work that he does. Chris identifies as a gay, cis, male, and uses he/his/him pronouns. He is a proud, first generation, Mexican-American, college graduate.

“Hello! I have been teaching at SAC since 2020. The first half of my career I spent teaching kids in early childhood education and school age programs. I was the Director of Child Development Services for 8 years at the Brea Olinda Unified School District, and the Director of Early and Expanded Learning for the Orange County Department of Education for two years. Now I get the amazing opportunity to teach students at SAC who will one day work children, families, and communities. When I am not teaching, I am hanging out with my four kids. We enjoy going to Disney (we are Magic Key holders!), watching movies, and going on trips.”

Becerra is on the Advisory Board of SAC Pride!, although he has been scrubbed from that web page, as well.

A Reddit user on a thread posted about receiving inappropriate text messages from Becerra several years ago:

Becerra was also Vice President of Child & Youth Development for the YMCA of Orange County.

Who is OC Independent?

The OC Independent is dedicated to providing factual, informative reporting on Orange County government, politics, education and quality of life issues such as homelessness and access to housing. We seek to illuminate aspects of issues, movements and trends that receive little or no attention from more established, mainstream outlets. Our editorial philosophy is grounded in the principles of the American Founding: limited government, federalism, the separation of powers and equality before the law as indispensable to securing our liberties. The opinions and stances articulated in OC Independent editorials flow from those principles, and are grounded in facts.
